Provide your livestock with advanced, extended broad-spectrum defense against severe bacterial infections with Shotapen L.A. Injectable Suspension, developed by Virbac. This premium veterinary formulation features a highly effective combination of three antibiotic agents: Benzylpenicillin Procaine, Benzylpenicillin Benzathine, and Dihydrostreptomycin Sulfate. Together, they create a powerful synergistic effect that destroys bacterial cell walls and blocks protein synthesis. Formulated in a long-acting (L.A.) aqueous base, a single injection provides rapid therapeutic blood levels combined with a sustained release that maintains continuous antibacterial cover for up to 48 to 72 hours in cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs.

Key Product Benefits:

  • Triple-Action Synergistic Power: Combines fast-acting and long-lasting penicillins with dihidrostreptomycin to deliver maximum knockout power against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens.
  • Up to 72 Hours Extended Coverage: Minimizes the need for frequent, stressful animal handling by maintaining steady therapeutic levels from a single dose.
  • Gold-Standard Systemic Care: Highly effective in treating severe respiratory diseases (pneumonia), acute mastitis, foot rot, and hemorrhagic septicemia.
  • Prevents Secondary Infections: Widely trusted by veterinarians for post-surgical protection and treatment of deep tissue wounds or umbilical infections in young livestock.

Active Ingredients Per mL:

  • Benzylpenicillin Procaine: 100,000 IU
  • Benzylpenicillin Benzathine: 100,000 IU
  • Dihydrostreptomycin (as Sulfate): 200 mg

📋 Veterinary Administration & Dosage Guidelines

Shotapen L.A. is a highly concentrated injectable suspension intended strictly for livestock. Dosing must be calculated precisely based on the animal’s exact body weight, following a veterinarian's prescription.

General Guidance:

  • Administration Route: Administer strictly via deep Intramuscular (IM) injection into a large muscle mass (such as the neck area).
  • Standard Clinical Dosage: The universally accepted dose is 1 mL of Shotapen L.A. suspension per 10 kg (22 lbs) of body weight.
  • Repeat Interval: If required by clinical evaluation and severity of the infection, a second injection may be administered exactly 72 hours after the initial dose.
  • Volume Restriction: To minimize localized tissue soreness, do not inject more than 20 mL per single injection site in cattle, and no more than 5 to 10 mL in smaller livestock (pigs, sheep).
  • CRITICAL Technique Rule: Shake the 100ml bottle vigorously before every single use to ensure the antibiotic crystals are completely and evenly resuspended.

⚠️ Critical Withdrawal Periods (Time Before Slaughter/Milking for Food Safety):

  • Cattle (Meat): 30 days following the last treatment.
  • Pigs (Meat): 30 days following the last treatment.
  • Sheep & Goats (Meat): 30 days following the last treatment.
  • Milk Production: Do not use in animals producing milk for human consumption.

⚠️ Important Veterinary Health & Safety Information

  • Visual Description & Symptoms: The product presents as a white to off-white, sterile, fluid aqueous suspension safely stored inside a durable 100ml multi-dose glass vial with a protective rubber seal. It is typically sought after when farm animals display acute clinical signs of severe systemic or respiratory illness, such as labored breathing, wheezing or heavy coughing, high body temperature (fever) with sudden lethargy, swollen, painful udders (mastitis), or severe limping with foul-smelling hoof rot.
  • Three Potential Mismanagement Risks: To ensure herd safety and protect consumer food safety, prevent application errors which include:
    1. Injecting the product intravenously (IV): NEVER inject Shotapen L.A. into a vein. Intravenous administration can lead to immediate, fatal anaphylactic shock or severe embolic blockage due to the suspension crystals.
    2. Failing to shake the vial thoroughly before drawing a dose, which leads to an inaccurate antibiotic concentration being injected.
    3. Ignoring the mandatory 30-day meat withdrawal period, which violates strict agricultural health and safety compliance regulations.
  • Contraindications & Storage: Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to penicillins, cephalosporins, or aminoglycosides. Strictly contraindicated for use in small companion rodents (such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or gerbils), as penicillins destroy their delicate digestive flora, leading to fatal enterotoxemia. Store in a cool, dark place between 2°C and 8°C (Refrigerate). Do not freeze, and protect completely from direct sunlight.
