PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
Albendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole endoparasiticide.
Administered orally, it is rapidly absorbed and diffuses into all organs and tissues producing lysis of worms, in all forms of evolution (eggs, larvae, adults) regardless of their location (respiratory tract, digestive tract, liver, various tissues).
It is active against nematodes (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leoninas, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum, Trichuris vulpis, Dirofilaria immitis) and cestodes (Echinococcus spp., Taenia spp., Dipylidium caninum, Mesoscestoides spp.) In dogs and cats.
Avermectin B1 is a macrocyclic lactone antibiotic obtained from the fermentation of Streptomices avermitilis; acts on the nervous system of parasitic nematodes and arthropods, causing paralysis and death by stimulating the production of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) at the synapses, which interrupts the transmission of nerve influx.
